Over the past 10 years of social service, Laura has worked within multiple populations in diverse settings. Laura brings a relational, culturally sensitive approach to therapy and is committed to a therapeutic process that fosters human dignity and honors each individual’s unique path toward personal empowerment. Laura is clinically trained in trauma therapy rooted in multicultural orientation, attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, family systems, and mindfulness approaches to healing.
Originally from the Midwest, Laura graduated with her masters in social work at the University of Chicago. Through a two-year fellowship program, Laura received extensive training in the treatment of trauma as well as psychodynamic theory and attachment therapy. Laura has worked in community mental health centers, nonprofits supporting the underserved in Chicago, international social work projects, wilderness therapy, and residential treatment centers. Laura brings these lessons drawn from her years of diverse clinical experiences. Currently, Laura also volunteers as a therapist and committee member for the Refugee Mental Health Initiative and the Trauma Informed Care Network.
With clients, Laura uses an intersectional and multicultural approach that focus on intersecting identities as a way to foster personal growth and strengthen the sense of self through empathy and social justice involvement. Laura utilizes creative and expressive ways to engage with the human psyche including movement, expressive arts, somatic therapy, and incorporates spirituality into her practice. Laura is honored by the resiliencies, empowerment, and true presence in human connection.
In her free time, Laura enjoy traveling, running, rock climbing, hiking mountains, writing, and art. Laura is passionate in learning about different cultures, healing practices, and rituals of rites of passage.
Laura Baumgart joined the team as the new Director of Clinical Services in September of 2018.
