The Utah Confidential Communications for Sexual Assault Act requires that sexual assault advocates have forty hours of sexual assault specific advocacy training. The Rape Recovery Center (RRC) hosts four Sexual Assault Counselor Training’s each calendar year to certify our volunteers, staff, and interns. The RRC is one of several agencies across the state that offers this certification program. Community members who are interested becoming certified, but are not looking to join the RRC team can become certified through the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault. For more information about their training program, visit www.ucasa.org/40hourtraining.
Topics covered in the Sexual Assault Counselor Training include:
Sexual Violence Dynamics, Statistics and Prevention
Trauma and the Brain
Working with Vulnerable Populations
Trauma Stewardship and Vicarious Trauma
Advocacy Resources and Skills
The RRC hosts a training each January, May, July, and September. Three of these are hosted in English, and the fourth is in Spanish. For more information about our Entrenamiento de Asesoria (Spanish training) visit this page. To find our next training, visit our calendar here.
